SERFs

Construction: What is a SERF?

Welcome to the world of self-engaging, reclosable fasteners (SERFs). Through a series of short articles, Binder will highlight the benefits of using SERFs in applications where durable attachment (with option to remove) or closure (with option to open) of two surfaces is essential.

So, what exactly is a SERF? These products typically feature ‘mushroom-like’ engagement elements formed into a tape. The tape is cut to size and attached to surfaces using an adhesive. When two such tapes are pressed together, the engagement elements interlock and hold the surfaces securely in place.

But what if you need to adjust, repair or temporarily remove a surface? No problem! Simply apply enough force to disengage the SERF. Once your task is complete, you can reattach the surfaces using the same fastener. These simple attributes make SERFs a practical and reusable alternative to traditional double-sided adhesive tapes, reducing both waste and complexity.

Binder offers SERFs under the Duotec® product family. Stay tuned as we take a closer look into how these innovative fasteners can simplify your projects.
