SERFs

Using SERFs for seating pads and cushions

Seating pads and cushions play an important role in providing comfort in transportation and furniture applications. However, these products face challenges such as the need for regular cleaning while staying securely in place despite frequent use and environmental conditions. No one wants cushions that slip during use, are unintentionally removed/relocated or blow away in the wind—yet the ability to replace covers due to design changes or damage must be retained. Self-engaging reclosable fasteners (SERFs) can offer the ideal solution.

Key benefits of SERFs for cushion applications

  • Secure mounting: A well-chosen SERF can be quickly and durably mounted to the seat subassembly using adhesives, clips or profiles.
  • Easy cover attachment: The cushion cover or outer assembly can have a matching fastener attached via adhesives, sewing or welding.
  • Flexibility in production: The fasteners do not need to be applied during final assembly. This allows for the components to be produced separately, even at different locations, and then combined at a later point in time.
