SERFs

Using SERFs for carpet and mat applications

In some cases, you may need to securely attach a carpet or mat to a smooth surface while still being able to remove it for cleaning or replacement. Whether your application is temporary (such as for a tradeshow booth or a vehicle demonstration) or long-term (such as for home interiors, commercial spaces or boats), self-engaging reclosable fasteners (SERFs) provide an ideal solution.

Key considerations for SERF selection

  1. Height and visual impact
The available height for the fastener system plays a significant role in both performance and appearance. For a smoother, less noticeable installation, SERFs with low engagement heights (i.e. the thickness when two fasteners are fully engaged) help maintain the flatness of the floor covering.
  2. Alternative mounting options
If necessary, clips or profiles placed on the floor side of the fastener can provide additional mounting options tailored to your application.
  3. Flooring considerations
The type of surface on which the SERF is mounted is crucial. Factors, such as material composition, presence of waxes or treatments and where the fasteners will be applied should all be considered when designing the ideal fastener system.
